Shassa comes from a long family line of Tier'Dal Knights in service to the ruling class. Loyal almost to a fault, she doesn't grasp political nuances well and often carries out orders single-mindedly. It is not clear whether she acts this way out of simple duty, extreme naivety, or both.
Shassa has drawn derision from her peers because of her warm, caring nature. Stemming from her reputation of being 'too soft', she pushes herself very hard and gets frustrated at her failures.
